Face: Coconut oil is an incredible moisturizer. Apply it to dry skin, lips or fingernails for nearly instant hydration. It can help soothe sunburns, heal cuts and scrapes faster, and clear up eczema. Apply the oil in a thin layer as an overnight face mask, and wash it off in the morning. (Some dermatologists recommend that people with acne-prone skin should skip the face application.)
Hair: Repair damaged hair with coconut oil. Massage your scalp with the oil, then work a light layer of oil into the rest of your hair. Using too much will make it difficult to wash out. You can leave the oil in as long as overnight, but use a deep-cleansing shampoo to thoroughly wash your hair the next morning.
Teeth: “Oil pulling” with coconut oil has proven dental benefits, according to WebMD. Swish 1 tablespoon of oil for 10-20 minutes, consistently “pulling” it through your teeth, and then spit it out. This fights bacteria and can help ward off gingivitis, plaque and bad breath.
While many tout the health benefits of ingesting coconut oil, doctors warn that the oil is still high in saturated fats and should not be consumed in large amounts.
