Make new friends without feeling awkward
If you’re like many adults, you may be set in your routine. You go to the same place for work, the same restaurants and the same grocery store repeatedly. You may have some established friendships, but at some point, making new friends doesn’t come as easily as it used to. That doesn’t mean it’s impossible! Here are a few ideas to help you make new friends without feeling socially awkward.
Attend a meetup.
Many communities host meetups to encourage like-minded people to get together and enjoy their hobbies. Meetups can bring together new moms, dog-lovers or people who want to play Ultimate Frisbee. Check online to find meetups near you and talk with other adults who share your interests.
Take a class.
If you want to learn a new skill, attend a class or a workshop. You will meet people who are also interested in cooking or painting (for example) but aren’t yet pros. The experience of learning something new with a group of people builds camaraderie.
Tag along with old friends.
A fun and low-pressure way to meet people is to attend get-togethers with old friends. They can introduce you to their work friends or yoga class buddies and point out a few things you might have in common. Practice saying yes to every invitation, and you might be introduced to someone you truly enjoy.
